Objective

Students focus on synonyms to expand and broaden their vocabularies.

Directions

1. This activity will allow students to see new and different words they can use in their writing. Show them how to say the same old thing in a new way!
2. Discuss with the class synonyms, words that have similar meanings. Show them that the thesaurus is a handy reference book to find synonyms for words. As a class, look up synonyms for the following words:
   

• small
• strange
• famous
• curious
• kind
• secret
• only
