Our third grade class is traveling to the continents and each student has to research a country of their choice. We have six Big Essential Questions to answer around the themes of 1) government, 2) community, 3) economics, 4) culture, 5) history, and 6) global connections. So this book unit, Writing a Country Report, works, or fits, nicely. I split it into two weeks of research (or three weekends), but I try to spend one week on just research and notation skills beforehand. We pretend we are traveling there as a field agent and they have to brief (since they are new resident experts), or is it debrief, their fellow agents on that country just in case their colleagues have a mission there.
My recommendations for improvements are: a) add lines and space asking for an explanation (reason) why the flag is designed that way, b) what are the import and exports for the country, like to their neighbors and abroad, and c) an example or help to fill out the Population graph.
Thanks for this unit in ready to use book form!
